The Christmas Celebration
by Rebecca Yeary
The celebration of our Savior’s nativity
Recalls our deliverance from captivity.
Christ humbled Himself and came to earth
On the night when God-incarnate was birthed.
A promise had been made since Adam and Eve’s day
That a way would be offered, and that Christ would pay.
Many times Satan tried to prevent our liberation,
Including the mass-murder at Herod’s proclamation.
An unblemished scapegoat of innocence was required;
For blood must be shed if remission of sin was desired.
Our Savior refused to summon the angels to aid;
By overpowering love was His sacrifice made.
Unlike Abraham’s, the Father’s hand was not stayed;
Wrath was appeased and upon His Son sin was laid.
The gift of salvation is now freely bestowed
To those who confess and repent of their load.
In the mist of the games, food, and recreation,
In the frenzied shopping, and much conversation,
Do not overlook the purpose of the celebration,
To remember and commemorate our emancipation.
